CRYSTAL CHINA BUILDING

About the Crystal building

Author and design

The architect responsible for the design of the building is Moshe Safdie

The design was inspired by Chinese sailing ships and is a tribute to Chongqing's storied past as a center of maritime trade. The Crystal is a 300-meter-long enclosed horizontal skyway that sits atop four of the buildings. It measures 32.5 m wide and 26.5 m high. The Cristal will set a record for being the highest in the world uniting the greatest number of towers. The exterior consists of approximately 3,000 glass panels and nearly 5,000 aluminum panels. The Crystal was built in nine parts. Four were built on top of the towers and the three parts in between were precast, lifted off the ground and installed. Raffles City Chongqing won the China Tall Building Innovation Award.
